Preparation for Meeting Russian Women in the Former Soviet Union!

You should plan on your first trip to the Former Soviet Union lasting at least 2 weeks. More time is better, but 2 weeks is the absolute minimum. The goal for your first week is to simply meet as many women as possible. The goal for week number two is to get to know the women you are most interested in.

If you have already been writing to some ladies, you will probably be able to arrange some meetings ahead of time. The local agency can help you with this, so scheduling issues are avoided. I recommend you hit the ground running and schedule a dinner meeting with the woman you are most interested in the night you arrive.

If it is an organized tour you could just call her when you arrived at the hotel and meet then you could ask if she would like to meet you at the airport. Then the agency car will take both of you to your apartment, unpack a bit and then go on your first date!

A great way to arrange a trip like this is to go during the same time as an agency has an organized tour. This way you could arrange to go to one or more of their socials. Then you have the benefit of being on your own but also seeing what a social is like! Highly recommended!

If you are able to go to a social this should really give your contact list a boost. You should be able to meet at least 10 quality ladies. You may not even have to go back to the agency to try to arrange more meetings. I suggest you try to meet 2 or 3 ladies a day.

You could have one meeting in the morning, another in the early afternoon, and the last one at night. Of course, her work and school may prevent you from keeping to this schedule, but it is possible to meet three ladies a day. Again, during the first week you are simply trying to meet as many as possible and see who you are interested in getting to know better. And who is interested in getting to know you better.

If you like someone, you can tell this after the first meeting or date, set a follow-up date right away. You may want to try a test question like, "if time allows would you be interested in meeting again for coffee (dinner?)" Then you can decide what to do based on the reaction you get.

Signs to look for if you appeal to her or not:

To determine whether a woman likes you, watch her body language. Does she smile a lot?  If she is leaning toward you, this is a definite sign of interest. On the other hand, crossing her arms and looking away is NOT! Does she offer you her arm as you are walking? Good sign.

Has she asked if you want to meet her mother. That is HUGE!! It is the best sign. I don't care if she is 35 years old, she will want you to meet her mother if she is very serious about you. This is such a deep-rooted tradition that I do not even consider a woman a prospect until I have met her mother!

You also need to remember your manners. In the USA, many women do not want to have the door opened for them, to be helped with their chair before sitting down to eat, etc. They do like this in Russia ! In fact, they expect it! Offer your arm to her as you are walking. These ladies have a really incredible way of holding onto your arm. Try it and you will never be satisfied merely holding hands again!! 

Keep in mind some customs that are tradition to Russia or the Former Soviet Union culture:

1)    When giving flowers, do so only in odd numbers. Even numbers is only for funerals.

2)    Don't show the soles of your shoes. If you must cross your legs be very careful of this one!

3)    Take your shoes off upon entering a house. Take your cue on this one from your lady. It is generally true, but I have been in some Russian flats and houses were they kept their shoes on.

4) She likes to dress up to look her best all the time, so dress well for her also! If you look unkempt or sloppy a woman will assume that you do not have the money to dress yourself. Therefore, how will you be able to support her and future children. Smart business casual with nice shoes is a good standard to follow.

5)      When meeting her friends/family don't go empty-handed. Bring some small gifts, candy, wine, champagne or alcohol. Don't forget the kids either! A small toy for a little one is always appreciated.

6)     When having your drink poured, don't lift your glass off the table. It is some kind of tradition to be aware of.
