Travel to FSU and Russia Tips! (part 1)

You have 3 options when planning to travel to Russia or the FSU:

1) Travelling On Your Own  
 
This one would appear to be your least expensive option. It is certainly much more difficult and not recommended for your first visit unless you are a very experienced world traveler.

The first issue you will have to handle is obtaining your foreign visa. I have never dealt with a foreign consulate for this but heard that it is a lot of hassle. I used either a marriage agency or a visa service company. Use these guys, who are the best:  Passports and Visas.

The next step is of course your airline tickets. Just do not use Travelocity or Expedia unless you want to pay way too much! Instead use Cinderella Travel or Go To Russia. The least expensive times to travel are between November and March, with the exception of Dec. 30 through Jan. 15.

Finding reasonable accommodations in Russia or the FSU can be a bit of a challenge for you. The hotels are either very expensive or very bad! It is much better to try and find an apartment to rent. Perhaps your girlfriend could help you arrange this. If you do this, I guarantee she will find you a place close to hers. This may cause problems if you are meeting other women besides her. She may get very upset. You can find some service companies on the internet which would be happy to set you up. The only question is can you find something in your target city.

I would very highly recommend that you learn some Russian--there is not much English spoken in certain areas. This is especially true if you are outside the major cities...or even out of the city center in some cases!

You will also have to figure out a way to find the ladies you want to meet. If you are contacting them directly, you can go and then call when you are ready. Hopefully one of the ladies you meet can help you find a good map. Explore during the times when you are not meeting a woman.

I think you can see this is not for the faint of heart. You really do need some help when visiting Russia.

2) Independent Travel With Agency Help  
 
I think this is the smartest way to go. It affords you the best opportunity to meet a good number of women, and is the most economical. With this arrangement you would do as much on your own as you feel comfortable. For me this means I find my own airline tickets and get my own visa. The rest I basically let the agency help with.

So, have an agency secure an apartment and pick you up at the airport with a car. Then, you will also able to go to their offices and tell them which ladies you are interested in meeting. You could even do this ahead of time and try to have some meetings already set up prior to your arrival. Another benefit to this arrangement is that the women will be most comfortable meeting you through their local agency. They probably have a fair amount of trust for the people at the office, if not a genuine friendship.

I would also strongly suggest you find another agency in the area you will be visiting. This way you are not locked into anything. It will also give you a back-up plan. You could even try meeting women at both agencies to get a feel for which translators you like better and where the women are more comfortable. 3) Organized Agency Tour 

It is best for someone who does not have a whole lot of international travel experience. With this arrangement you just pay your fee, pack your bags and go! It will cost you at least $3,500 for the trip itself. Then you need to factor in spending money, gifts for the ladies, and meals. Perhaps also a short side trip.

The tour company takes care of everything. A bus will pick you up when arriving in the FSU and take everyone to the hotel. The tour guide will make sure you all get through customs and provide whatever help is needed. After a little time to freshen up and relax you will probably have a meeting with the staff of the company, including interpreters. They will explain how the tour is set up.

There will be a few socials where you will have the chance to meet many women. You have to see one of these to believe it. Picture about 200 gorgeous women in a room with 30 men. I am not kidding!
